Turkey Trot Supports Rehabilitation Unit
at Pembroke Regional Hospital
PEMBROKE – The
Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation graciously received $2,500.00
from the Turkey Trot Committee, who raised the funds during the 2010
Annual Event. This year’s proceeds were directed towards the Kim
Armstrong Bursary fund and the Pembroke Regional Hospital’s
Rehabilitation Unit.
“It
was a terrific year with 350 generous, dedicated participants and
businesses,” said Committee Member Shaun O’Neill. “It is a wonderful
family event, and we’re hoping to keep going and surpass that number
this Thanksgiving.”
The Turkey Trot Committee came together to create the joint silent
auction and 5km walk, trot and run event in 2005 to honour their
late colleague and friend Dr. Kim Armstrong who passed away from a
massive stroke. Proceeds of the event are reinvested in the
community, shared between the Kim Armstrong Bursary Fund and the
Pembroke Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Program. To date the
annual event has raised over $40,000.00.
“Thank you to the community for getting behind this event,”
reflected Sabine Mersmann of the Pembroke Regional Hospital. “Your
help has supported the rehabilitation unit which means more people
have access to first-class healthcare - both preventative and
restorative.”
The Seventh Annual Turkey Trot will take place Saturday, October
8th, 2011 at the Riverside Park. Participants are encouraged to
register early, and bring their friends and family members for the
fun walk/run and silent auction.
Scotiabank Celebrates Community Health Care
Pembroke (ON) – In support
of local health care, Scotiabank was the pacesetting sponsor
donating a $10,000.00 Gift of Humanity for the Pembroke Regional
Hospital Foundation’s hallmark Black and White Gala. Since 2001
Scotiabank has invested more than $101,000.00 our Regional Hospital,
improving health care for all Valley residents.
“Our gift reflects our
commitment to the community and the overall well-being of the
region,” said Peggy Williams, Scotiabank Community Banking Manager
for Ottawa Valley. “We are honoured to be a part of the Gala again,
and cresting $101,000.00 is a terrific milestone.”
The Pembroke Regional
Hospital Foundation held its annual Black and White Gala October
15th, 2011 at the Normandy’s Officer Mess on Base Petawawa. To date,
the celebrated event has garnered over $554,000.00 which is invested
in developing and improving resources bringing more comprehensive
health care closer to home.
“When there is a need in the community, it is a great opportunity
for us to answer that call,” continued Williams. “Health care
affects everyone, regardless of age, as we all know someone who
needs the hospital, if not ourselves. It is truly rewarding to be
able to help facilitate those services.”
On hand to accept the
donation was Mrs. Marnie Stunt, Chair of the Foundation Board and
Gala Committee. “The Gala Sponsorship alone was enormous, but to
exceed that marker is cause for celebration,” exclaimed Mrs. Stunt.
“Every donation counts. When we all give what we are capable of it
adds up to superior health care programs and services for everyone
in our region!”

In loving Memory of Mrs. Reina Moncion
The Moncion family gathered together this past Father’s Day weekend
at Pembroke Regional Hospital to pay tribute to their beloved wife,
mother and grandmother, Reina Moncion, who passed away February 18th.
The
entire Moncion family have been long-time supporters of the Pembroke
Regional Hospital. In 2001, Mrs. Moncion and her husband Omer set a
high standard for community involvement and with the support of the
three Moncion Grocers (Pembroke, Petawawa and Riverside Markets) as
well as the Great Canadian Warehouse/Thriftlodge in Petawawa,
donated over $260,000 to the Building for the Community Campaign.
In 2006, the couple personally sponsored a Dialysis Station valued
at $50,000.00 in support of the Dialysis Campaign and in 2007, the
family rallied together, yet again, in support of our community by
sponsoring a Birthing Suite valued at $75,000.00 in the
Maternal/Child Care Campaign.

6 Year Old Raises Money For Hospital
Philanthropy is a big word, and the idea is even bigger, but not for
six-year-old Lauren McKay.
Lauren
is a Grade One student at Hennan Street Public school in Petawawa
and was inspired by an idea she got while in Nova Scotia this past
summer. "They were selling bracelets at a local Blockbuster to help
raise money for a girl who needed help with treatment at the
Hospital," said Lauren. Once they moved to Petawawa, Lauren raised
the topic again with her mom and it was then that Lauren's mom knew
she needed to help foster this idea. So, with the help of her proud
parents, Lisa and Donnie McKay, friends, family members and
neighbours, the young philanthropist held a garage sale in Petawawa
on Saturday, September 12th and raised $300.00 for the Pembroke
Regional Hospital through sales and cash donations.
"It
touched my heart when Lauren's mom called to let us know Lauren had
raised this money for our Hospital," said Terry Daschuk, Donor
Relations Coordinator at Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation. "As
a parent myself, I think it's so important for us to nurture these
ideas in our children, through our own actions, and teach them the
importance of helping others and giving back to the community,"
Lauren's
parents said they chose the Pembroke Regional Hospital because they
knew the money raised by Lauren would stay in our local community.
The money Lauren raised will be directed to the purchasing of
medical equipment and the funding of programs and services at
Pembroke Regional Hospital.
